Summerland, Florida February 21-24, 2013

Summerland Main Circle
Summerland…

…is privately owned land located in Bonita Springs, FL.  It is very wooded and has trails that occasionally open into tent camping areas. The site is limited to 300 Guests. Please pack out what you pack in. We like to leave a place cleaner than we found it.

Camping…fun, beautiful, shady, and VERY primitive!  BUT there are HOT showers 24/7.  The port-a-potties are kept clean.  NO electricity is available for the campsites (time to leave those laptops at home!) and there is only limited electricity available for Vendors.

There are no RV hookups.  No cars will be allowed at campsites.  You can bring your vehicle in, unload, and then move the car to a private parking area across from the festival site. We are expecting a record crowd this year, and want to keep the site lovely, and available for camping…not parking!

ABOVE GROUND Fire Pits and fire torches are permitted, but must be attended at all times.  If you leave your site, you must extinguish the fire and/or torches. This is to provide for your safety, and to protect our Mother’s gift of a beautiful woodland site.

Since tent camping is available to the first 300 hundred people, arriving early is in your best interest, this year’s Hawkfest is sure to be a sell-out crowd!

Entry fees:

Currently all tickets will be sold at the gate.
(no credit card & no checks will be accepted)

FULL FESTIVAL PRICE: $40.00 per person/18 or over (seasoned veterans excluded with parent/guardian )

VENDOR FEE: $20.00

DAY PASSES are available for any SINGLE day from Noon until 2:00 AM the following morning: $25.00. If you decide to stay after 2:00 AM, there will be an additional $15 charge which allows you to stay for the rest of the event.
After 4:00 PM Saturday: overnight stay: $20.00 per person

ALL Participants must be off-site by 2pm on Sunday!

WRISTBANDS: must be worn and visible at all times. We ask your cooperation with our staff if they request to see your wristband. Remember, they are doing their jobs— serving the Hawkfesters.

Drum/Dance Altar

Please remember that there will be a Drum/Dance Altar both Friday and Saturday nights.
Community participation is encouraged.  Please bring items to the drum circle at least an hour before dark if you would like to loan articles such as cloth, statues, candle holders so we have time to arrange the items while it is still light enough to see.  Other items such as fruits, snacks & drinks can be dropped off any time.

So per this blurp from http://www.faeriefaith.net/festival.list.html#2013
can I dance skyclad this year? We do not and I do not want to have the bad-sudden experience I had last year in the midst of blissful drumming and dancing.

    Below tells me yes.

Not only is this a time for Adult fun, the gathering has areas where Skyclad (full nudity) is permitted. In the past kids have been part of our gathering. The adults who attend want to feel the freedom to be Adults.

    HAWKFEST DRUM AND DANCE
    February 21-24, 2013
    Summerland Festivals, Bonita Springs, FL
Hawkfest is a Drum and Dance Festival put on BY Drummers and Dancers! Started as a small gathering of friends who are dedicated to the joy and fun of dancing and drumming, Hawkfest has become a gathering where dancers and drummers, fire spinners and hoopers gather to share techniques, music, and to expand their knowledge. For the past two years, we have come together creating Magickal and unforgettable experiences! Hawkfest is an Adults ONLY festival someplace where adults come together in a safe place for GROWN UP TIME! We have done this for a few reasons. Not only is this a time for Adult fun, the gathering has areas where Skyclad (full nudity) is permitted. In the past kids have been part of our gathering. The adults who attend want to feel the freedom to be Adults. Most children were not raised in such a free and open culture. Because of this, we prefer that those who come to Hawkfest be 18 years of age and over. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, HAWKFEST IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT! Every night transports you into a place where you can dance, drum, spin, hoop, and celebrate until the sun rises! It is a time outside of time where we set aside egos and drum and dance finding the rhythmic ecstasy of our extraordinary lives. Dancers, Fire Spinners and Hoopers come to Hawkfest to experience not only their own heart and soul but the hearts and souls of everyone in the Circle each other and the drummers. You will walk away from Hawkfest a better player, a better dancer, a better hooper, or a better fire spinner!!!

Hey all! I was wondering if anyone is heading back to Georgia after the festvial. If so, could I hitch a ride?

  20. Linda Florist - February 4, 2012 at 5:42 pm

    Hi, Nighthawk,
I have moved to FL from Cleveland and I never made it to Hawkfest at Brushwood, but I’d like to come to this! The thing is, I sold or gave away or abandoned all of my stuff when I moved, so I don’t have any camping stuff. You say you can drive in to campsites but you have to park elsewhereI could come if I could sleep in my car. What can I do about this?.

    Namaste,
Linda (widow of the late Bruce F., who I’m sure you recall)

  21. Mel Meadows - January 30, 2012 at 9:20 pm

My partner (Fey Wilde) and I just found out about this event and were wondering if there are any vendor spaces still available. Fey makes handmade, heirloom quality Books of Shadows and other wooden ritual tools. She may be able to host a workshop as well!! Where is the closest motel if we decide not to camp?

Thanks for your time and Blessed Be,

    Mel Meadows & Fey Wilde

  22. Lucy - January 28, 2012 at 10:49 am

I am coming to your event but need to know if you have camping accomodations close to the events as I am handicapped. I can walk small distances but not long ones. Other than walking I am self sufficient. My tent attaches to my car so that I have everything I need close at hand. Do you have any suggestions for me at Summerland. I will be a part of the crew from Manna Reading Center.
    Many thanks

  23. drum2joy@yahoo.com - January 23, 2012 at 11:07 am

    Hi Laura.

    5. If you arrive on Wed, there should be no problem finding space for camping.

    4. Everyone at Hawkfest is friendly. You shouldn’t have any problem finding new friends to camp with.

    3. Yes, we have a food vendor. Natures Plate. Look for their info on the vendors list for Summerland. Have not heard yet on how much full event meal plan is going to be yet. Check back on that.

    2. I think RSW might be the closest.

    1. The entrance fee covers everything; camping, workshops & all night drum circles. The only time there is a charge at a workshop is to cover the costs for materials.

Look forward to seeing you at Hawkfest.

  24. Laura - January 22, 2012 at 8:36 pm

Hey! I have a few questions!

    1. Does the entrance fee of $40 include camping if you arrive early enough? Does $40 seriously include all the worshops?? No extra charge to participate?

    2. Is the closest airport RSW?

    3. Is food sold onsight or do you have to go elsewhere to get food?

    4. I am coming solo. Is it possible to join some other group for camping?

    5. Is there a youth hostel nearby in case camping room is gone? I am planning on getting there Wednesday by 2, but I don’t know how quickly the spots are taken.

  25. Nighthawk - January 17, 2012 at 11:12 pm

Hi All, Kids are fine for Hawkfest!!! All we ask is that if your kid is little to please have Adult supervision with them at all times. We don’t think that is asking to much from a parent. Kids are very much welcomed at Hawkfest!!!

  26. Jenanne - January 15, 2012 at 4:49 am

To everyone whom there are comments from below my comment…. are these new comments or are they from last year? If they are current i can answer quite a few of them. Please let me know, thank you. Jenanne

  27. Locksmithincolumbus - August 29, 2011 at 3:03 am

I would like to ask something regarding what rhythm said: she said that it is not the right place for little ones, so is not good to arrive with kids?? I have two and I would like to take them with me!

  28. rhythm - February 28, 2011 at 7:16 pm

Hawkfest 2011 was so wonderful, as always!! Aside from the brush fire that seemed to completly envelope us it was very nice. The drumming as always we out of this world!!!! The concert rocked!!! The only negative comment I hace is,there were small children wandering around without adult supervision. A large blazing fire pit is no place to leave children by themselves. Parents, if you choose to bring your children to an adult event of this nature,PLEASE, stay with them at all times. Several times a small child had to be taken out of fire circle to find her mommy, all the time people are dancing, drinking, having a good time.I just don’t feel that it’s the right place for little ones to be.

  29. winddanncer - February 23, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Hi Stargazer! “Sold Out” only applies to campers…day passes will still be allowed entrance.

  30. winddanncer - February 23, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Hi Jeanie…No there is no drum circle on Sunday night! :(

  31. winddanncer - February 23, 2011 at 2:41 pm

Hi Larry! That would all depend on where you camp…however from parking to drum circle would be approx. 1000 ft. I believe.

  32. larry - February 20, 2011 at 8:23 am

Couple questions related to carrying congas a stuff around: What is the approximate/ball park distance from camp to drum circle? Parking to camp? and Parking to circle?
