Summerland, Florida February 18th-21st 2010

Summerland Main Circle
Summerland…

…is privately owned land located in Bonita Springs, FL.  It is very wooded and has trails that occasionally open into tent camping areas. The site is limited to 300 Guests. Please pack out what you pack in. We like to leave a place cleaner than we found it.

Camping…fun, beautiful, shady, and VERY primitive!  BUT there are HOT showers 24/7.  The port-a-potties are kept clean.  NO electricity is available for the campsites (time to leave those laptops at home!) and there is only limited electricity available for Vendors.

There are no RV hookups.  No cars will be allowed at campsites.  You can bring your vehicle in, unload, and then move the car to a private parking area across from the festival site. We are expecting a record crowd this year, and want to keep the site lovely, and available for camping…not parking!

ABOVE GROUND Fire Pits and fire torches are permitted, but must be attended at all times.  If you leave your site, you must extinguish the fire and/or torches. This is to provide for your safety, and to protect our Mother’s gift of a beautiful woodland site.

Since tent camping is available to the first 300 hundred people, arriving early is in your best interest, this year’s Hawkfest is sure to be a sell-out crowd!

Entry fees:

Currently all tickets will be sold at the gate.
(no credit card & no checks will be accepted)

FULL FESTIVAL PRICE: $40.00 per person/18 or over (seasoned veterans excluded with parent/guardian )

VENDOR FEE: $30.00

DAY PASSES are available for any SINGLE day from Noon until 2:00 AM the following morning: $25.00. If you decide to stay after 2:00 AM, there will be an additional $15 charge which allows you to stay for the rest of the event.
After 4:00 PM Saturday, February 20 overnight stay: $30.00 per person

BEFORE/AFTER: Early arrival is permitted after noon on Wednesday at a charge of $10/person. ALL Participants must be off-site by 2pm on Sunday!

WRISTBANDS : must be worn and visible at all times. We ask your cooperation with our staff if they request to see your wristband. Remember, they are doing their jobs— serving the Hawkfesters

Drum/Dance Altar

Please remember that there will be a Drum/Dance Altar both Friday and Saturday nights.
It would be appreciated if you would bring items to the drum circle at least an hour before dark.
Possible contributions include: cloth, blankets, rugs, tables, hay bales, candles, flowers, fruits, drinks, granola bars, and other midnight snacks.

Since this is the first time the festival will be held at Dragonz Wylde there are no pictures of the fest available at this location. If you are looking for pictures of the Fest at Summerland, Florida, check the front page of the site and you’ll find a link to some pictures as well as a video!

    POTION
    (…where is my potion…?)

    elixir unknown, familiar one,
denotation, undertone, call to praise, sound alone,
    brutal,
    frantic,
    awestruck,
    breathless,
    detonation, insinuation, hiding fire, exposing me;
    dream-catcher, soul-shaker,
    mirror-breaker,
    audible charm, fragile bliss,
    a story with held,
you play me like a symphony,
    shekere, shake away, take away
    particles, promise,
    ride with no end,
    amen.

Just got back from the festival! This was my first time going and it was a fantastic event. Everyone was so nice, and especially helpful to those of us at a more intermediate level of drumming. I would highly recommend this event to other drummers I know. I also know they’ll be kicking themselves they didn’t know about it sooner. The land was beautiful and the camping was fun. The whole thing was well worth the entrance fee!

Is there some reason for the alien in the right corner of the website?

ADMIN – Hi Dave – Yes, we like them :)

I just got a silly question about my daughter, she wants to go up with her boyfriend, and she is only 17, but he’s over 18. Is there a problem with her going without her guardian? I want to come, but I got to work unfortunatly.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Joann

Man, oh man. How I wish I could be there for this festival!! I foresee a great time to be had. =)

Maybe next year, I will not miss it, and will convince my “crazy adventure” friend to vacation to FL as our next year’s plan! I will totally be there in spirit, wailing on my darbuka and harmonica like a madman! Mayhaps convincing him will be easier if I mention hitting up a hike through the wetlands too. ;)

    Love and blessings, from Texas!

This sounds awesome but it looks like a loooong drive from Orlando.

ADMIN – Looks like a little over 3 hours according to google maps.

Are vendors allowed to sell Djembes?

  14. M.E. - February 1, 2010 at 8:59 pm

    Alafia!
Most importantly, the drum/dance altar is a place for participants to go to gain refreshment and sustenance (both physically and spiritually) built for the community and by the community.
    thanks, see you soon!

Hi Steve – the drum/dance altar means different things to different people. Some use it to remember those that have passed, some use it to honor the family and friends, some use it to express their feelings or concerns.

  18. steve - January 28, 2010 at 7:21 am

Hi, can you explain to me what the drum/dance alter is.

  19. winddanncer - January 25, 2010 at 8:55 pm

No Carole…Summerland is primitive camping. There are however, VERY hot showers on site! :)

  20. Carole Latino - January 25, 2010 at 8:26 pm

Hi, are there any cabins for rent on site?

  21. winddanncer - January 25, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Hi Vickie! If you click on the “Directions and Accommodations Summerland” link at the top of this page you will find google maps that will give you directions to the site. The link is located on the right under “Pages in this Section”. You will also find a “Musical Entertainment” link that will give you information on the band that will be playing at the festival. There is also a “Workshop” link that will give you all the information on the workshops and fun that will be taking place. On the Home Page on the front of the site is a video from last years festival that will give you an idea of the happenings that take place at Hawkfest. Thanks for the interest and hope to see you there!

  24. winddanncer - January 23, 2010 at 8:27 am

“Hawkfest is an Adults only festival…someplace where adults come together in a safe place for grown up time! We have done this for a few reasons. Not only is this a time for Adult fun, the gathering has areas where Skyclad (full nudity) is permitted. In the past kids have been part of our gathering. The adults who attend want to feel the freedom to be Adults. Most children were not raised in such a free and open culture. Because of this, we prefer that those who come to Hawkfest be 18 years of age and over.” Nighthawk
